biography
Mitsuhiro Abe - Photographer, Videographer.
Born in Kanagawa, Japan in 1996, he began photography at the age of 18 while studying at university. Traveling and photographing in countries such as Nepal, Cuba, and Morocco, he developed a deep interest in the dual nature of "boundaries"—their rigidity and ambiguity—which has since become the central theme of the works.
Since 2019, he has documented conflict zones in the Middle East and the lives of people affected by them. In 2020, the focus shifted to international borders, exploring the physical and symbolic forms "boundaries" take. After graduating from university, he worked as a news cameraman for NHK, covering domestic politics and disaster areas including the aftermath of the Noto Peninsula earthquake. Alongside the journalistic career, he held exhibitions in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Nagano, and Ishikawa.
The major works include Wandering Olive Trees (2019), which portrays life in Israel and Palestine; Boundary (2020), centered on the U.S.-Mexico border wall; and 侵喰 (2023). In 2025, he became independent. In addition to documentary photography, he also specializes in commercial photography.
